Where would they be without each other?

On some of the other topics ppl have said “Per started Marie’s career”, or “Per was failing in his career until Marie joined him.” So it started me thinking, what would have happened to them without each other?
I’m guessing that Per would have still started Roxette or a very similar band with another singer. Perhaps Annelie Ryde or someone like that, and probably would have had similar success since he almost certainly would have written the same songs that gave Roxette success. No offense to my beloved Marie, but anyone could have sung the nananana part of The Look and made it successful. And of course he would have continued with GT if all else failed.
I think Marie would have eventually been discovered by someone. You often hear Per fans say that he “started her career” and that she “owes him”, but it was technically Stefan and Martin who discovered her and gave her a chance by letting her join Strul and later Mamas Barn. Per merely directed her to a producer. I think with her talent it was a matter of time, she probably would have continued with bands for a while and possibly had success with one of them. I think she eventually would have become the Swedish solo singer she is now, but I doubt that she ever would have dared to go international without someone like Per pushing her.
What do you guys think?

I think that Per would have continued to be a solo-artist, and that Marie would have got a record-deal anyway. And eventually, it´s not impossible (as you say) that Per would have started a “Roxette” without Marie.
Other interresting questions: Where would Roxette be without Clarence? And where would Per be without MP?

I rate probability higher than destiny, and I don’t think that Per and Marie were always destined for international stardom. Whilst they are both extremely talented, and had an appealing commercial product from the outset, their breakthrough came about from quite an improbable event in the USA, for which I am very thankful: “if you don’t know that story already, ask your mother”.
If Roxette hadn’t formed then I suspect that Per would have had limited success with some more Swedish or English albums (with or without another singer or group), and Marie would have had a successful solo career in Sweden... but their careers would most likely now be over, and many of us international fans would never have heard of them :-O
In that way I speculate that the formation of Roxette not only provided a platform for intenational success, but prolonged their solo careers. Then again, as indeed I’m not Swedish, I am completely happy to be contradicted by native Swedes who think that this is rubbish!
All the best, Rich ;-)

(“Susi” writing again...)
I don’t think anyone could have done the “nananananas” in “The Look” as Marie... He might have succeeded with another singer but I am still not sure if he had been that successful...
Well, the one who really “discovered” Marie was Lasse Lindbom. With him she finally got successful. Strul and MaMas Barn were big flops (no wonder, they suck IMHO)...
I don’t think either that Marie would have gone international without Per... She wouldn’t have wanted to do it, I guess... and I am not so sure if she had succeeded, had she wanted to do it...

I have doubts if PER or MARIE could reach so far without each other.

i think that Per wouldnt have much international succes without Marie because his voice isnt that strong in my oppinion so he needs a singer with a big voice!
I dunno what would happend if roxette never was founded because who knows which opputnities Per and Marie would have than!
I think the succes of Per is because of his way to write funny lyrics and catchy music and marie success is her big strong voice and her emotional songs!

... and when you put PER & MARIE together, you get the superb duet!

I’m a native swede, but I don’t think that Per would have had a very successful solocareer. Remember that the “Per Gessle” and “Scener” albums was not that very big in sweden when they came out. Per was looked at as a former popartist... nothing to be bothered about. Then Roxette happened and all that changed. I think he would have written many more songs for other artists, swedish or foreign, maybe he would have joined some other form of group, but he would not be that famous and well known as he is today.
Marie on the other hand, had a very good solocareer going when Roxette was formed, so I think she would have been a very well known soloartist, but I don’t think she would have gone international. As for today, I think she would have left the spotlight.
So... all in all, I think that the fact that they started with Roxette and the success that followed, has indeed made their solocareers longer and international. When it comes to GT, I don’t think they would have had the success they experienced this year either. Mainly because I don’t think that that many people would know about them. It is like that for me anyway even though I’m swedish. If it was not for Roxette and my interest in Per and Maries other work, I would never have discovered Gyllene Tider. GT would just be “some old band that reunited for a while”...

They joined together to form Roxette at a perfect moment. I think they wouldn’t have had such a succes if they were not with each other.
