this may be old hat, but perhaps of some interest to persons in the us or canada. i got fed up with viewing AVEM or marie’s dvd on the ’puter and went to an audio/video specialist in town for a dvd player that could play them on my tv. got a pioneer DV-578A for around 200 USD. It works!
looks like the next model up also plays vcds (DV-676A-S) but it’s more money. anyhow, sorry if this is irrelevant, but i am very ,VERY happy to see marie on the big screen at last !

i might have gone with a less expensive unit, but it happens that the cd player part of my stereo just died, so this is also replacing that. they started by showing me one at 500 dollars, but i said no thanks. i never could find those apex ones here in town, and the staff at places like best buy never could answer my questions about pal discs, some didn’t even really know what it was.

My first DVD player was on my computer, so I’d watch stuff there. I don’t think it’s ever really bothered me that I can’t watch it on a tv. Mostly because I have a video card that will let me run a cable from the computer to the tv, so what’s playin on the computer, can be seen on the tv. The only difficult thing: Going over to someone’s house and watchingit
