I don’t think so. They have their own style. I bought their record “Fallen” and there were 4 songs which I listened to about a hundred times or even more. They are really great:
“Going under”, “Bring me to life”, “Everybody’s fool” and “My immortal”. There are 7 other songs on the album but I didn’t like them very much. But 4 very good songs on a newcomer record that’s pretty good. Maybe that’s the reason why they released this four songs, because they knew that the other ones were weak.

Evanescence is a good band, has enjoyable songs........
But it isn’t comparable with Roxette’s style.
Evanesce is more or less gothic-rock, while roxette is more (power)pop.
Maybe our expert Powerpoplarry (If he is still around) can give a good explanation.

I’m gonna go with no. They’re not that close to being like Roxette. The male vocalist on Bring Me to Life is from another band anyway. Otherwise, it’s just Amy Lee.

WOAA?? Evanescence and Roxette? WOAA???:| HELL NO. I of course respect your opinion but I think they are totally different than Roxette. You can’t relate everything that has melody with Roxette.
Evanescence is not Goth IMHO, they are Dark and sometimes. Ben Moody has departed from the band which is very sad. Even though he was not the best guitarist around but I like his style SPECIALLY the distortion he has used in the fallen album.
Roxette is rather SWEET and more Sexy. With Roxette, you can tap your feet and nod your head a bit but with Evanescence u just HAVE to do some prime time head banging. I absolutely positively loveeeee “TOURNIQUET” along with other brilliant songs.

I quite liked Evanescence - but I’d never compare them to Roxette. Fallen is quite a good album:
1 Going Under | 2 Bring Me To Life | 3 Everybody’s Fool | 4 My Immortal | 8 Taking Me Over | 9 Hello | 11 Whisper | 12 My Immortal (band version, w/guitars) are all good songs. But this is nothing compared to Look Sharp!

I like Roxette and I like metal so would stand to reason that I’d love Evanescence if it’s true, and I do really like them so perhaps there are some similarities.

I agree with Tinytim. The first time I heard Evanescence I thought of Roxette. And I couldn’t quite put my finger how they are the same.
Is it just me, but if you listen to the intro of Evanescence’s “My Last Breath” and the intro of Roxette’s “My World, My Love, My Life” there is a part there that sounds the same but only different styles.
All of you, try and have a listen.

mmm, sorry evanescence dont really float my boat...i mean that song is ok, but it all sounds a bit too “american” for me...
