PERFECT MOMENT?

Few years back, Roxette was truly stinking, specially in US music domination markets, or rock dominated markets. Let’s be honest.

I was wondering what could it be...it seemed to me that Roxette annoyed people because it was in a middle-term of pop and rock...(keyboards?? hmmm...that’s up to Clarence)...and people were (and are) so much more for rock. But honestly other crappy bands appeared in the same period (2000-01) and could make it (like that bloody Semisonic).

So, ok, let’s leave the sounds apart...that’s probably not the reason...maybe the reason is...the formula...yes, a duo, that’s such a 80’a thing...besides, it seemed that record companies didn’t want to promote two idols, two singers, two main fronts for a musical representation...but now we got Linkin Park and Evanescence kicking assess...

I really imagine the reason was the damn thing of a man and a woman standing on a stage or singing together...that was so much Carpenters, 80’s...but now the 80’s are back either...so...what the hell are P&M waiting for?????

I feel like I never did since I become a TDR member, people missing roxette in radios, music-talking, etc...and u remember, the same people years back found them the most ’uncool’ band of the world...well here in Brazil, even MTV is changing their opinion about...and even die-hard rock fans (which also are die-hard pop haters) admit the idea of sharing the same space, being the under the same sun of pop fans...they even slightly admit too a certain preference for some of those pop bands...specially because that was true since the very beginning of their ’resistance’ and cause most of those pop bands are also rocking up their sound a little...well, roxette was always like that (and we always asked for that, and even more in the last albuns, too much electronic or keyboard sound...and we all hope that after a solo tour and gt hot hot tour, per will come up with some rockier ideas too)...so, that’s not hard for them...come up with a new album, with some real uptempo tunes...well, it seems that once again luck is smiling on roxette, as it always did - the only explanation to its success - or maybe the only explanation to its sudden pumping on world charts...

If Per was waiting for that...and it seem he was (remember last year? “there’s gonna be a roxette revival...it always there is”)...the time has come.

tell me what u think folks...

I want Marie solo album!! Screw Roxette right now!!

I agree 100%, the time has come, but this time can also be next year or next two years I think. And I really hope they see what happends and when they decide to record new album it would be like “old days” Roxette, more rock. I really believe that Per knows it and won’t make a mistake.
But first we need to wait til they are ready ( esp. Marie) to work again. But I’m sure good times will come for us again! Maybe I’m a fool but I still believe it can happen.

agree 100%... with Purple!! :D

YEAHHHHHH MARIIIIIIEEEEEE... If I had to choose, I would choose Maries music... even though Mazarin and FFF would be hard to beat. ;)
I can’t wait until Marie releases her album... I don’t care if i’m skinters, I’m NOT waiting to buy it! WOOOOOO!

Well I also want the inedit material from Marie first. Then we can talk about Roxette’s moment.

But speaking of Roxette, lots of people think they are nice. In my circle of friends (non-roxers) they see Roxette as a good act. Marie has a very good voice and Per’s songs are always nice to listen to.

When Room Service was released, I got a magazine with a RS review on it. The magazine was called Bizz. The reviewer said that RS was a really good album, filled with rock-oriented tracks (Real sugar and Jefferson) and the best of disco music (The centre of the heart, Fool and Make my head go pop). He also said that Roxette was getting rid of that enormous amount of ballads that used to suffocate most of Roxette’s albums. The most important music magazine in Brazil gave Room service 3 stars out of 5. It’s a good sign to me.

And you see the reviewer said it all: “too many ballads”. He didn’t mention any down-tempo track. I think that’s why people sometimes think that Roxette is uncool. Here people tend to like The look, How do you do!, Joyride, Sleeping in my car very much. I mean the rocker people.

Ballads usually are more successful down here. I think there are three reasons for that:

1. EMI Brazil sucks big time. They didn’t release Fireworks (I’m sorry instead), She doesn’t live here anymore (I don’t wanna get hurt instead), Real sugar and The centre of the heart as singles;

2. There are too many popular radios in my city and there they choose to play songs that have more to do with samba and pagode (romantic samba). Ballads are more interesting to most people, since they’re’s easier to be listened to.

3. Pop radios tend to follow a certain direction. Some point to the dance side and others to the rockier side. On the dance side Roxette has nothing but Stars released down here. Rockier stations see on Roxette a label that EMI has put on Per’s and Marie’s foreheads: “Ballad-factory”. Besides, EMI doesn’t send the powerpop singles to the radios anymore. Dunno if the same happens abroad...

So “cool” people down here think that Roxette “used to be cool”. I think that both Per and record company should work decently to make it take off. Per should write more powerpop songs like he does with Gyllene Tider and EMI should promote them well.

In the same world there wouldn’t be war, disease and all the differences would be accepted by everybody’s hearts. :-P

’I’m Sorry’ was released as a single in Brazil?

I had no idea...

I’ve had my GT summer, I am ready for Marie’s new album now, roll on when we get some information on a release date! ;)

just one thing KixGuy: don’t ever call pagode ’romantic samba’...u could call it ’samba-b’ or ’trash samba’...hehehe

yeah, I agree with EMI’s blame on that, but we can’t forget that Roxette has released in the last years much more catchy ballads than power pop ones...most of the power pop ones are really those chewing gum songs-like...after a while u don’t ’shiver’ anymore...weak guitars (they almost sound like artificial, specially in RS...where are those guitars really bleeding all along the song?) and too many electronic background elements...people rather more simple songs, but with live instruments, it’s a fact across the music history...well, maybe not the in the middle of 80’s (the cure, rush, etc)...i guess u all remember in roxette.se that the best songs elected by fans were ’it takes u no time...’ and ’my world, my love...’, so it’s clearer and clearer that per and marie are putting more of their talent on ballads, coz they hell know they’re more appealing in a general way...what’s bad in commercial terms...rocker teens of today...what the hell, they’re right!! what’s cool it is cool...

yeah, I’d really like to see Marie’s new album, I’m looking forward for it...(AND in that meantime if any humanitarist soul, specially brazilian ones could send me a copy of Mazarin and FFF, I’d be so happy, and I could pay for it..unhappily, it’s impossible to find it here in my town...please HELP!!!!)...but what would really kick ass it would be a release of a Per’s solo album in english in the same period...I think that would have such appeal, specially in Europe...I’m sure people are asking about them...aren’t then????

yeah im really looking forward to an album from marie....and i think the possibility of it being in english makes it even more exciting...i mean i love her swedish albums, but the fact that this is something new, that she has never done before, i am fascinated to see what direction she takes an english album in and how she pulls it off. I also read and article a while back about how some artists have gone through illnesses and other life traumas and they tend to come back with their strongest work. Marie always puts her heart and soul into her swedish work anyway, but after what she has been through the past couple of years she will probably have done a lot of soul searching and will have a lot to communicate, whether this can be done in english remains to be seen.
I think we might have to wait until next year though, we probably would have heard about it by now if it was going to be released in the autumn like it was reported a few months back. Anyway, I will wait with anticipation....her health and wellbeing are the most important things, and she needs to take it easy until if/when she decides to make a comeback.
