Roxette is history - and I applaud it!
Geirboy said on August 17, 2004 11:56:
Don’t get me wrong - Roxette had their moments, but:
When writing for Roxette Per seemed to have a certain sound in his head aimed for pleasing as many as possible, the productions was awful (so polished, so smooth, so digitalized, so...boring), and I always found maries singing tiresome.
Therefore I salute it if Per continues solo. His work with GT, not to mention his solowork is WAY better than Roxette. What I would like for a Roxette funeral is:
1) A boxset with outtakes and demoes where per sings Maries parts
2) The best Roxette tracks redone by Per and his mates
Ok, start killing me now...

Well... it seems that anyway! Check his user-stats. 1 topic starters, 1 post. He obviously is a GT fan who swarmed straight over from the GT forum
Geirboy said on August 18, 2004 07:40:
There is some strange thinking going on here. Are you guys really divided into “GT fans”, “Rox fans” and so???
I enjoy Per’s music first and foremost, and have done so for more than 20 years. I have a massive collection of material, including everything Per released official, and then some... I’ve met Per personally, and have discussed this matter with him. Likes and dislikes are a personal thing, and I was just stating my personal opinion, not realising there was so many youngsters here. But if you calm down a bit, you will find that what I state isn’t any different from what Per himself had said over and over. Conserning Roxettes breakthrough he says something like: “We worked hard to get that sound that works on American radio, and when Clarence entered the picture we found that sound, and we could rerecord the tracks in a way that would sell.”
Well, in my book many of these songs were very good, but far better before they got this treatment (they sounded less synthetic before). Afterwards Per was never quite able to choose another path for Roxette, although there was some great moments like “She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”. That polished production is gone from his GT-work and even more his solowork, and that makes it more authentic (and enjoyable) for me. When I listen to Roxette I hear the sound of good songs that almost always could have been better with another production.
Per himself is often refering to the same thing. When he writes a song he instantly can tell if it’s a Roxette-song, a GT-song or a solo-song, because they somehow needs to fit a “formula”.
That doesn’t make Roxette “bad”, I rank them in my top 20 artists of all time. But Per solo I rank second to only one other artist - and now I have tried to explain you why.
Sparvogamarie said on August 18, 2004 07:51:
You’re entitled to your opinion I suppose, though as a Marie fan, I find your comments even more “tiresome” than her voice....
I agree with you from the point that you can still enjoy Gessle’s music without Roxette. I feel the same in the other way, I can enjoy Marie without Roxette also. It actually doesn’t bother me either way whether they are together or not. Though is it really necessary to come here and start upsetting Roxette fans who do care by talking about funerals and trashing Roxette’s music??
AURYTE said on August 18, 2004 08:01:
Well, many fans enjoy both ROXETTE and GYLLENE TIDER material. But I think many maybe more orientated ROXETTE fans have missed ROXETTE songs.
And really I hope there will be less people who are talking about the end of ROXETTE. Maybe PER is reading it and HE might understand that there are no fans left... But there are, there are!!!
zaine said on August 18, 2004 09:48:
You know, I think I actually agree with this dude. Maybe not the way that he expressed his opinions, but I think we’re both thinking along the same lines.
“Well, in my book many of these songs were very good, but far better before they got this treatment (they sounded less synthetic before). this is completely true. The songs were beginning to sound tired, and almost ’ordered’. as though they were doing it because they NEEDED to, and not because they want to.
I also agree that GT has far more energy, and is often more entertaining to listen to. It sounds like fun times to record GT albums; the boys, guitars, a set of drums and a pack of beer in the studio. Where as Rox was more a packet of crisps and some warm lemonade. I dunno, it just doesn’t have the same vibe.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hoping for ’the death of roxette’ at all. I personally would like to dream of a future tour so that I can personally experience them, but the facts that this guy has set down, are true (in my opinion)
so rather than flame him, I’m gonna say ’wooo, go you buddy!’ and hope everyone else will note that I burn easily and don’t have a fire-extinguisher.

zaine at least you write under you nick and that’s make you opinion personal
it’s not the same with Geirboy and it’s undertsandable that he is hiding (or making account just to write this)cos using words like funeral is rude and obscene..
it’s normal to like more one or other part of Per’s or Marie’s work but there some ethic norm that must be respect..
Altough you can like or not Roxette.. this band haS the history and is in the history of music!!!
Give me a call when the next band from sweden do the same..
I personnaly visited Per’s and Gt’s tours and a like what i see very much and it was great, but spliting of Roxette won’t make them greater..
Per solo,Marie solo,GT,Roxette they are diffrent but in the same time so close..and that’s normal cos each of us has a different sides.. side for”the boys, guitars, a set of drums and a pack of beer in the studio” and side for “packet of crisps and some warm lemonade”..
and that’s is unique about Per and Marie..don’t try to divide it into parts..
most of world well know bands are just the same when they play at “home”..
Be proud of Per and marie and keep suport them!!
cos even in my country we have lots of brilliant bands ,but they always will remain local phenomenon ...

I have listen to Roxette since 1991, and Gyllene Tider since 1992, I have to be honest that for many years at least the past 10 Gyllene Tider is on my CD player a lot more than Roxette... I played C!B!B! the other day because a friend mentioned a song on there that she was listening to over and over again on repeat, and I thought ermmm not heard that in a while, so I played the album.... but no now Gyllene Tider is back in my CD player until perhaps I get the urge to play my Joyride album again!
Don’t know why Roxette don’t float my boat anymore not nearly as much as hearing Gyllene Tider, or Per and Marie’s solo stuff. Although being honest I hardly even play Marie’s solo stuff, guess I could say the kind of music I prefer is GT and Per’s solo stuff to Roxette.
I suppose what makes it stranger is that I am English, and therefore for about the first 5 years of listening to Gyllene Tider, I did not have a clue what they where singing about! Until I decided I would find out!
In my own head and heart I will always be a Roxette fan, because no matter how hard I try, without Roxette in my life I would not have discovered Gyllene Tider, I would not have heard such fantastic solo music from Per Gessle & Marie Fredriksson. I would not have discovered the one off album from The Lonely Boys, nor The World According To Gessle, or even know what a Mazarin was!!! ;)
I would have laughed if someone suggested I went to Sweden on Holiday, Halmstad would sound like an electrical product maker. Leif was just a name! Ikea would be a cheap shop for furniture and Joyride would still be something losers did when they stole cars!
In fact I am thinking I would have been a totally different person without Roxette in my life!, god they mapped out my life…. How I think things could have turned out so different if I had not been in my bedroom that day in 1991 listen to the top 40 countdown and I heard “The Big L”!!!
Most importantly I would not have met some of the people I have being a fan, and made some good friends over the years to chat and have a laugh with.
Hell I could have turned out a Madonna fan! ;)

Thanks for the replies, I will make three comments:
1) To “sparvogmarie”
I don’t generally dislike Maries singing. I actually enjoy her solowork a lot. It’s just her singing and Pers songs I dont mix so good in my ears, meaning I like Pers song better when he sings them. (I probably wouldn’t enjoy too much hearing Per sing “Sparvoge”. Ok?
2) To “Zaine”
Thanks for understanding my point and beeing able to look behind some of the words that maybe wasn’t so well chosen.
3) To “Emil”
I’m not hiding behind anything. My loginname is Geirboy. My real name is Geir and I am actually a boy. How can you possibly hide less than that??? Besides you ditch me for using the word “funeral” which i never did - please read my post over again and find that the worst word is “history”.
Finally, I’m not out to upset anyone. I guess I just didn’t realise to what extent this was a “pure” Roxette board, and not a board dedicated to all of Pers music.

2.possibility-as i said before”(you made account just to write this)”–wich is the even more rude–to enter the world of

read careful the topics and you’ll understand that most of the topics from last 2 years are dedicated to Per and GT
I spend my last money, travelled 2000 km and watched 2 Per’s concert, the same with GT this year,
most of the TDR members do the same so be sure- we like Per music ,WE are deducated to Per’s music.
The last GT concert from that tour will start soon....
So better we all stop with harsh coments and lets together enjoy these great songs!!!
Roxlander said on August 18, 2004 21:30:
The same boring topic about the end of Roxette. How many times are we gonna talk about it? Everytime Per or Marie says something like “I’m going to take my time” “I want a family” “I’ll take some time off” or whatever else, someone comes with this stupid topics just to take the attention. C’mon! If you’re really a Roxfan you’ll wait new material, you’ll enjoy it, and support Per and Marie’s other proyects. What’s the problem if the others prefer Per solo, Marie solo or GT ? So what? And if Roxette split... live and let die!
Anyway the wind will blow...
