Maybe some helpful info for Marie fans..

I found this info on a brain tumour website, I thought it might be useful for the people who were a bit worried by her swollen face....
“Dexamethasone: A commonly prescribed drug used to decrease the swelling in brain tissue caused by a brain tumor. Dexamethasone is a powerful medication that falls into the class of steroids known as glucocorticosteroids. These drugs differ from anabolic steroids (those sometimes abused by athletes) and sex steroids (such as estrogen or testosterone). Glucocorticosteroids are used to treat many medical conditions, including brain tumors. Decadron is used most frequently for brain tumors because it seems to offer the best balance of benefits versus side-effects and imitates the body’s own production of cortisone. It helps minimize the swelling that can cause headaches, nausea, vomiting or a weakness. Short and Long-term: Increased appetite, weight gain, fluid retention, personality changes that may be noted by the patient or family (feeling of well-being, sadness, meanness, psychosis), stomach pain, stomach and intestinal ulcers, and diabetes. Whenever a doctor places a patient with a brain tumor on Decadron, the goal is to get that patient off the medication as soon as possible. The decision to decrease the dosage gradually is based on the patient’s progress. Some patients are off Decadron within a week of surgery, while others require the medication for years.”
I hope that explains some things for the worried people. Also according to my friend who took similar medicine, her swollen face went back to normal 2 weeks after she stopped taking it

No probs Ally. Quite a few people were wondering why she was still having treatment after almost 2 years (myself included) so I wanted to find out if that was normal. According to the sites I read, for treatment to be going on so long it means that the tumour was probably quite serious, but it’s not something unusual.

I think it’s just a normal shape of patient who had brain tumour surgery. If MARIE hadn’t felt good, SHE wouldn’t have gone to GYLLENE TIDER’s show.

Let me tell you that her face wasn’t swollen all through the year - so I really hope that her condition didn’t get worse again!

So do I. The whole thing worries me. All the best, Marie!

and how would anyone know that, unless you have seen her with your own eyes or seen a picture of her.... answers on a postcard please...

im not a doctor, but there is no use jumping to conclusions...even if her face wasnt swollen earlier in the year, that could be a good sign...perhaps her body wasnt strong enough to take these drugs until recently, and this is why she is taking it now...for all we know it could be a sign of her regaining her health. After all from what i read above this drug that we think might have caused this is not to treat the actual cancer, but the swollen brain tissue

Guess what.. :)

But MARIE’S face wasn’t swollen last year when SHE appeared in awards ceremony and visited PER’s solo concert in Halmstad, I guess. (I’ve seen pics of that). However, it seems that swollen face comes over MARIE comeback...

Her face was a little bit swollen at Per’s solo concert last year. She just looked a bit chubby in the cheeks in that picture, but she looks much more swollen in this recent photo. Unfortunately we’re not doctors so we have no idea why...maybe her swelling goes up and down, or maybe she stopped taking the medication for a while and she’s back on it.
But, it’s positive that she still has her hair so she’s probably not taking chemo and radiation, which is a good sign that she doesn’t have cancer *desperately crossing fingers* I hope so anyway!!! Keep sending her positive thoughts or prayers!

@Ally: it’s your matter if you do believe or not. :) I just wanted to tell that her face wasn’t swollen all year long, since I hoped that somebody can tell me why she receives medical treatment again or what is happening exactly. I just want to understand the whole thing, since I am STILL very worried about her. Anyway: Sorry for sharing some “news”..won’t happen again.

Wow, it’s getting thrilling now.. *g*.
Maybe we can talk about that on another place.. ;)

This will go on and on for ever, we are all worried perhaps even more so since seeing the picture of Marie at Gothenburg, but for me I prefer not to keep thinking of it... until we get some proper news, and god I think it is long overdue... but hey it’s EMI! what can we expect....
Kiwein1 said on August 12, 2004 17:44:
The picture is horrible! I can’t believe that they publish a picture like that. Well, I simply hope that she is fine.

hej, tabloids live from the misfortune of the others. I bet they chose the worst picture and I am sure she looks better in reality :)
Kiwein1 said on August 12, 2004 17:54:
Well, something that maybe shouldn’t be said, but: I really have wondered why or that they didn’t write something about her condition/look. ..I would have guessed that they do..!
ncurran said on August 12, 2004 20:07:
this discussion is pointless as none of us know what maries situation is.....i used to think that it is none of our business and she should just do what she wants....now im startin to think there should be some kind of official statement as this is getting ridiculous
LittleSpooky said on August 13, 2004 03:48:
Hopefully, this Dico will do it’s job and basically “dry out” the swelling.
As for the rest of that stuff, to quote Robin Williams:
“Side effect?! When my asshole’s leaking, I consider that an EFFECT, really!!!” (commenting on the potato chips made with Olestra. A common side effect was: anal leakage. I kid you not.)

Judith is right, I’m sure Aftonbladet chose the worst picture they could. You can see that she was not ready for any photos, and from the expression on the guy behind her it seems that they were not supposed to photograph her cos he looks a bit pissed!
Ncurran: I agree with you, I’d love to hear some kind of official statement. But, I guess it’s up to Marie and it seems she’s just not ready to do that so we have to respect that.

Thanx for looking into that, I also looked into some information on the web and found simalar stuff...
