When did you last hear...?
squigger said on August 2, 2004 02:15:
After having heard nothing after Almost Unreal on the radio, I have just heard Crash! Boom! Bang! at the cinema (you know, to keep the mob appeased before the film starts) - and I don’t think it was even released as a single in Australia.
AURYTE said on August 2, 2004 06:57:
I can give 99% that HAVE A NICE DAY was released in Australia. So didn’t radio play WISH I COULD FLY or STARS?
benbenben said on August 2, 2004 10:07:
cbb was released as a single in australia. of course i never heard it on the radio, but molly meldrum did mention it and show a snippet of the video on hey hey it’s saturday (a show i am glad is no longer). i heard it played once as background music in a pub in sydney a couple of years ago (moreton’s on sussex to be specific).
benbenben said on August 2, 2004 10:13:
i even remember that it was a cheap single (4.95 instead of the usual 7.95 or whatever).
benbenben said on August 2, 2004 10:14:
i was in sweden recently and it was so odd to hear roxette (and per and gt) on the radio. honestly, everytime a radio was in earshot i could hear per’s voice.

C!B!B! did not receive any radio air time in the US that I can remember – and I was listening for it, curious about which track(s) would prompt attention. I received the CD as a gift as soon as it was released, it got a terrific review in my city’s newspaper, but no singles ever made their way into FM music play here. That just shows how stupid a lot of radio programming people must be.
Roxer93 said on August 3, 2004 06:22:
@AURYTE: All the albums have been released here, singles are harder to come by. I found WICF, but not Stars. I never saw anything from RS, not that I looked.
@benbenben: How can you say that about Hey Hey It’s Saturday?? I was really sad when it got axed. I’ll admit that it was getting pretty tired (especially since Ozzy Ostrich retired), but we grew up with that show, and I always tuned in for my favourite segments. Now all we’re left with is Rove McManus. I’m sorry if you like him (I can take him or leave him), but he just doesn’t compare to Daryl and the gang!
AURYTE said on August 3, 2004 06:59:
@Roxer93 As know STARS must have been the second single from HAVE A NICE DAY in Australia. (It was stated in EMI).
And what review CRASH!BOOM!BANG! received in US?
RobS said on August 3, 2004 08:30:
EMI Australia released all the singles up until June Afternoon (except Fingertips). Releases after that were quite sporadic. WICF was released as a single. Stars was released to radio but never took off, so the single release was cancelled, and they didn’t even bother with Anyone. They released TCOTH and skipped RS but released MATAH (which also didn’t do anything).
The last song that i ever heard was fireworks just after its release, since then i’ll be damned if i hear anything apart from The Look or Joyride.
@benbenben - i also saw that preview on Hey Hey!, i found it quite interesting, esp that what they showed of the vid was quite diffn’t from it turned out like (i think)
benbenben said on August 3, 2004 10:56:
@Roxer93 ... sorry, but i hated hey hey. i only ever watched it during roxette releases/tours in the hope of molly mentioning them. rove doesn’t do much for me but he doesn’t infuriate me like hey hey did.
@RobS ... i don’t recall a diff. cbb vid being played. i do have the segment on tape and actually watched it recently and didn’t notice that. do you also remember molly’s fireworks plug?
Zargo said on August 3, 2004 11:15:
Fingertips was definatly released here... one of the few countries.
Interestingly, I saw a compilation the other day called ’RTL Megastars’ with ’Milk & Toast & Honey’ on it.

one the east coast of the usa cbb and sleeping in my car did get radio play
Roxreporter said on August 3, 2004 15:58:
Sleeping In My Car was the last single that really got the airplay that it deserves. From the next ones on (CBB, Fireworks,...) the airplay and also the attention was going down. And I’m from Belgium, a country that promotes Rox quite well, can’t imagine that somewhere else they got less then here, must be awfull :(
RobS said on August 4, 2004 08:33:
@benbenben - its not diff’t? i always thought it was? maybe it was something else!?
I only saw the last part of the Fireworks plug, they showed tour dates straight after that didn’t they??
AURYTE said on August 4, 2004 09:10:
Hey guys. I’m from Lithaunia and our records shops don’t sell any foreign singles. But you can order them through the shop. Unfortunately, records shops have only the latest singles avalaible like A THING ABOUT YOU or OPPORTUNITY NOX.
And radio... Well, I can ROXETTE at least two times every day. Radio stations play everything from THE LOOK to OPPORTUNITY NOX.
benbenben said on August 4, 2004 10:35:
@RobS ... yeah, the tour dates were also shown. funny the little things we remember (although i have the benefit of a recent viewing).
RobS said on August 4, 2004 11:28:
@benbenben - how much of this stuff do you have on tape?? just the CBB and Fireworks plugs??
coyboyusa said on August 4, 2004 12:26:
i would kill if someone have a video copy of thew add for cbb that was broadcast by the electronics store the wiz in the usa. it had outtakes from the cbb video not in the video with a dove fly past and love is all in red letters showing during cbb i would really like to see it again
benbenben said on August 4, 2004 23:04:
@RobS ... stuff i have on video tape (not all of great quality)
join the joyride tour brisbane concert advertisement
cbb tour brisbane concert advertisement
joyride album advertisement (99% sure ... i certainly did have it at some time)
tourism album advertisement (ditto)
brashes album of the week - tourism advertisement
ET (entertainment tonight ???) interview with rox re tourism album
in concert ’91 (??) a few songs from a us concert
nbn interview/plug for cbb tour concert in newcastle
powercuts ’ID’ and showings of fading like a flower and the big l chart positions.
molly’s melodrama re cbb and fireworks
australian music awards 1991 with rox. receiving award for best int. group
news stories (sbs, ten) about the beijing concert
that is all i remember. there might be more but probably nothing great.
in 1991 or 1992 sometime i remember missing a tv broadcast of join the joyride on prime tv (7’s regional broadcaster). did you see it? do you know which concert it was?
Roxer93 said on August 5, 2004 06:08:
@benbenben: NBN & Prime??
It seems I live near you.
You’re somewhere in the Newcastle region, right?
AURYTE said on August 5, 2004 06:18:
In Lithuania the only album that had ad on TV was HAVE A NICE DAY.
benbenben said on August 5, 2004 07:35:
@Roxer93 ... nope. i grew up on the far north coast of nsw where we received both regional nsw and brisbane tv broadcasts. i live in sydney now.
antz said on August 5, 2004 23:31:
I am from New Zealand (your friendly neighbour!)
we have have had most singles released/played up till Wish I could fly (which they played heaps back when it was released).
Whats really strange is, they never played any of the singles from DBUGTTC! (even though they were released here)
Its a shame that all you hear on the radio these days is IMHBL and LTYH and sometimes Joyride or The Look.
@benbenben: Our regional tv station aired the Live-ism vid (joyride -sydney tour) along time ago. I was so excited I bought a brand new tape to video it but there was a fault in the tape so it didnt record any sound! I was so p*ssed!
Hey and guess what we get Prime TV here too! We have an australian presenter reading our national news!
RobS said on August 6, 2004 08:07:
@benbenben: thats a nice little collection you’ve got there. The only thing i’ve got is a 2min news segment when they played in china for the first time. I never knew about Prime playing a full concert, although at that time we might not have had prime?? so that could be why i didn’t know, and the fact that i didn’t know about roxette at that time :-P
AURYTE said on August 6, 2004 09:24:
If radio stations don’t play ROXETTE maybe you should phone them and request ROXETTE song & vote for ROXETTE in charts.
LaMan said on August 6, 2004 11:01:
Zargo: You saw German ’RTL Megastars’ CD in Australia??? I´m surprised.
sfchemist said on August 10, 2004 11:13:
The music channel Magic shows IMHBL quite often as part of their power ballards and their soundtrack playlists.
Zargo said on August 12, 2004 07:18:
A random occassional import...
It’s available on www.sanity.com.au too I notice.
(’discontinued’ with ’limited stock available’)
A few copies of Mazarin are floating around too in the big cities.

I’m from Ukraine and our radio stations play mostly what is called “classic” and well-known Rox-songs. “Ordinary” songs from disks are rare guests on the stations . From time to time, when new stuff is out, the repertory temporary widens.
Some stations even have TWATG.
Marie’s song Antligen was played few times on one or two stations some years ago, the same had happened with HKAK. So there’s nothing special on air.
But... Recently I was on vacation in the Carpatian mountains and one local station played different Roxette songs, they had Spanish HAND, Marie and Per’s solos including his “Demos” album! I didn’t hear there only GT stuff.
A real roxer must work on that station! I’m afraid it’s the only one station in my country which has so huge collection of such a good material at once :)))
Zargo said on August 15, 2004 12:43:
A friend tells me that a local radio station in Newcastle NSW had an ’olympic special,’ awarding gold/silver/bronze awards for songs from each year from 1980-2004.
Rox won 3 golds!
For ’It Must Have Been Love,’ ’Listen to Your Heart,’ and less predictably ’How Do You Do.’
Tanwen said on August 15, 2004 21:09:
the only song I ever hear on the radio in the UK is IMHBL, though I did once hear the look. on the way to the airport to go to sweden they did play IMHBL. we took it as a sign.
RobS said on August 19, 2004 10:05:
quite surprised to here How Do You Do! won, i know that song done well on the charts, but i don’t ever recall hearing it played on radio?
Santi said on August 25, 2004 20:41:
Me in the centre of Valencia, Spain, today, I have heard in a computer shop “Give you up” today being played :D
Ain’t that a surprise?!?!?!
Well, they played too The Big L, Milk and Toast and Honey & Real Sugar while I was there, so there must be a real fan working in there!
Btw... maybe he’s around, does any Spaniard in here work in APP Informática Ruzafa??
Roxer93 said on August 2, 2004 04:37:
I’m guessing you’re from Australia, as I am.
I’m pretty sure C!B!B! was released as a single here, but obviously it go zero attention, as usual.
I never heard anything beyond Almost Unreal either.
Edit:Actually, come to think of it, I did hear Fireworks on the radio once, back in ’95.
