Brazilian site jumps the gun and puts single on sale over one week early

Written by Lars-Erik_Olson on December 31, 2010 to , , and .

(Updated) - Brazilian portal UOL has somehow jumped the gun and made "She's Got Nothing On (But the Radio)" available for purchase today, even though the international release date is scheduled for January 7th.  A fan browsing UOL (which is extremely popular in Brazil) discovered this fact late Thursday evening (early Friday morning in Brazil) and purchased the song. Other fans in Brazil were then made aware of the availability of the song on UOL via a post on Orkut's (similar to Facebook) "Roxette Community" and by middle-of-the-night phone calls to each other.  How exactly this happened is unknown, but apparently there was either a breakdown in communication between EMI Brazil and UOL, or there was a programming error on UOL's side, as the site does cite 2011 as the release year.

UPDATE: EMI Sweden contacted EMI Brazil about this mistake, and they in turn contacted UOL.  The single is no longer available (until the proper release date).

EDITOR'S NOTE: Obviously, this was a mistake. It's a mistake that — if not contained — has the potential of doing harm to Roxette's sales chart success, as a coordinated release has more impact and much effort has been put into marketing strategies.  We urge fans in Brazil (and now sadly elsewhere) to resist the temptation to "share" the song with others. We strongly believe that having waited this long for Roxette to make a complete return, that all of us can and should wait until the song's official release date.  We implore you not to think you are doing someone a favor by "sharing" the song with them, because in doing so… you are doing Roxette a disfavor.  It should also be noted that in writing this story and editoral, we became aware that the team behind RoxetteBrazil made a similar appeal.  —LEO

In Memoriam: Longtime Canadian fan Cory Mistysyn, 32

Written by Lars-Erik_Olson on December 30, 2010 to .

It is with profound sadness that The Daily Roxette learned yesterday of the death of Cory Mistysyn, a longtime fan of Roxette and Per Gessle and loyal reader of this newspaper. Cory, who passed away on November 11th at the age of 32, was himself a talented singer/songwriter who deeply admired Per's music.  "Per is a genius," Cory once wrote, "and part of that shows in his ability to choose extremely talented people to work with."

Cory, who lived in Toronto, was an active participant in the original Roxette Mailing List (RML),  and then migrated here to the TDR SmallTalk forum. His comments on RML and TDR were usually about technical aspects of the arrangements and about production values. In person, he was soft-spoken, gentle, and always sincere. He was known to have an impressive Roxette/Gessle collection, especially of demos and other somewhat "rare" items as his biggest interest was in the process of how Per would come up with an idea, and then move it along towards a finished product. In his lifetime, Cory managed to attend several Roxette concerts and was most recently seen enjoying Per's "Party Crasher" show in London (see photo).

The cause of death was not stated in the published obituary.

She’s got nothing on (but the radio)

What she got she got to give it to somebody
What she got she got to give it to someone
It’s not a case of growin’ up or lots of money
It’s just the fundamental twist of the sun

What she got she got to let somebody find it (- “Really?”)
What she got is not for her to keep alone (- “Oh!”)
Nobody’s got a clue if there is such a reason (- “Yea?”)
Why she wanna play it o-on her own

She’s got nothing on but the radio
She’s a passion play
And like the break of day
She takes my breath away

What she got she got to give to some contender
What she got is just like gold dust on a shelf
And no one’s got a clue what’s on her brave agenda
Why she wanna keep it keep it to herself

She’s got nothing on but the radio
It’s a passion play
And like the break of day
She takes my breath away

Who did the painting on my wall?
Who left a poem down the hall?
Oh I don’t understand at all, he-he-hey

Merry X from Rox

Written by tevensso on December 22, 2010 to and . Source: Santa.

THE NORTH POLE - Is Santa Claus an Eskimo masochist? The q is relevant since it’s sooooo cold in Sweden right now we poor Swedes can hardly breathe. All guitars are out of tune, thank God for the blankets we found in a closet at the Tits & Ass Studio the other day.

Anyway, we just want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. 2010 has certainly been a fab year for us. We managed to finish the Charm School-album. I finally got my favorite pasta-dish right. Marie learned how to ski. I cracked the Top 10 on the go-kart track. Marie found her Trash & Vaudeville-pants from 1989 at the dry-cleaners. We did seven super shows in Europe. And there is more to come next year you know that. Plenty.

The new single will officially hit Planet Earth January 7 but knowing you guys you’re probably already tired of it by then… Charm School begins Feb 10.

So… thanks for all your support, we need that from time to time. Yea, we do appreciate your unconditional love now and forever (sounds like a song…).

See y’all somewhere around the globe next year. We promise to do our best to bring a smile to your faces. Have a great X and a most charming new year. Don’t drink and drive.

Love from Per & Marie

Written by tevensso on December 3, 2010 to , and . Source: d&d management.

On February 11 the unlikely becomes reality. After 25 years as a world-famous act with 70 million albums sold, one of Sweden’s biggest pop groups steps back into the spotlight, a decade after their last studio album “Room Service”.

They do it with “Charm School”, a new album with twelve songs in a style that’s best described as “updated classic Roxette”, from the initial power pop fireworks of “Way Out” to the bittersweet closer “Sitting On Top Of The World”.
